We are looking to hire a part time employee to help carry out daily operations at our developing small farm, along with assistance in running our farmers market stalls 3 Saturdays per month. 

Requirements of this job include assisting in the following farm operations, as needed:

• Routine farm and crop maintenance such as weeding, planting, harvesting, watering, and pruning. 
• Washing, packing, and potentially delivering produce.
• Bed preparation for planting, including spreading compost and organic fertilizer, adding or removing tarps, and setting up irrigation. 
• Grounds maintenance such as weed whacking and general clean up. 
• Setting up, running, and tearing down our farmers market stall. 
• Packing orders/CSA shares.
• Any farm development projects (fence building, potential hoop house raising, etc.).
• Other miscellaneous farm tasks.

Hours: 

• A total of ~22-24 hours per week on market weeks, and 14-16 hours per week on non-market weeks.
• Three market shifts per month are required. 
  • Market shifts are on Saturdays from ~7:30am-2pm (market runs from 9am-1pm). 
  • Market assistants will normally be able to meet us at the farmers market to unload and set up, but on the occasion that we need you to come to the farm to help load the van in the morning (if we are out of town) the days would be a bit longer
• Weekday work days are flexible based on employee’s availability as long as it meets the required number of hours (14-16 weekday hours) we are looking for. 
• Week day shifts would be within the time window of 8am-4:30pm with a half hour lunch timeslot

Dates of employment: First week of June through the last week of November. (If hired earlier, the employee may be invited to start sooner.)

Compensation: $15-$18/hour based on experience plus free produce and flowers. 

Qualifications:

• Experience working on a farm would be great but is not required. Training will be provided for any tasks. 
• Employee must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds.
• Must have high stamina and be able to withstand working in all types of weather conditions. For extreme weather events you will not be required to come in, but the ability to work in moderate rain and summer temperatures is necessary. 
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment as we are often working on a tight schedule to ensure crops are planted, harvested, terminated, and packed according to schedule. 
• Employee must be able to help market customers in a friendly and accommodating manner
• One of the owners will usually be at the market as well, but occasional solo market days may occur if we are out of town. Employee must feel comfortable working a market shift alone if necessary. 

About our farm: 

Field and Forest Farm is a veggie, flower, and herb farm about 6 miles north of Ann Arbor that is owned and run by Megan Lowlor Korovesis and Matt Korovesis, and operates following organic growing methods. We had our first growing season in 2024 as we started to get things up and running while both of us continued to work other jobs. Though many long hours were spent planning and laboring at the farm during its first year, 2025 is the first year that Field and Forest is Megan’s full time commitment, and as a result the farm is expanding its production and sales outlets. This year we will be adding a weekly CSA membership, selling flowers through the Michigan Flower Growers Collective for the first time, and will be continuing to vend at the Ypsilanti Farmers Market on Saturdays as we did last year. 

Field and Forest Farm is a small farm operation and will be growing on ¾-1 acre of land in 2025. Though we have a tractor to help move materials around and prepare our beds, the work we do and the produce we grow is at a human scale; nearly everything is done by hand. 

Because we have only very recently started the farm, we still have a good amount of development ahead of us. This spring we will be building a walk-in cooler, and in the next couple years big projects such as building a barn and a hoop house (or 2) are on the horizon. The current state of our farm business is pretty rustic without much infrastructure and our systems are still developing, but we expect the farm to keep growing over the next several years. Amenities such as restrooms, drinking water, and kitchen appliances can be found and used in our home on the property.
